AFTER PROKLEEN ! LOOKS LIKE A NEW ROOF
|
We follow the recommended non pressure chemical roof cleaning guidelines of the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers
Association. If you wish to know the only recommended chemical combination to use for cleaning an asphalt shingle roof,
simply click the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association link below.
We see some advertising a so called "low pressure, environmentally safe, roof cleaning method." The ads seem almost too
good to be true. No bleach, safe for plants, biodegradable, non toxic, made by a chemist, environmentally friendly,
everything they think you want to hear. But, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is ! Remember, that's
a plant growing on your roof, so if its safe for plants, how can it kill the one growing on your roof ? Do you want to get your
shingle roof cleaned every 6 months ? Sodium Hydroxide, the active ingredient these companies use, is extremely caustic
and corrosive, just click on this link Unsafe Roof Cleaning Link
Strong Sodium Hydroxide roof cleaning solutions can cause the granules to start falling off your shingles by dissolving the
tar holding them in place. Still want that stuff on your roof ??? The Consumer Product Safety Commission published a
voluntary recall of one of these unapproved "Roof Cleaners" and you will soon see why ! Roof Cleaner Recall
High levels of Sodium Hydroxide, yuk ! Perhaps they really are not as "environmentally friendly, non toxic, or
"biodegradable" as claimed ? These Sodium Hydroxide solutions are applied by the "roof cleaning company", they wait 30
minutes for it to "work", and then they are rinsed off, supposedly with no pressure, But how do you KNOW its really "no
pressure chemical roof cleaning" ?? If it really is "Non Pressure Roof Cleaning", then why are they using a Pressure
Cleaner to rinse it off ? Remember, this un approved roof cleaning chemical takes 30 minutes to work, and if a spot is
missed, or the Sodium Hydroxide didn't "take", they must re - apply the harmful roof cleaning chemical, and then wait
another 30 minutes. Don't think for a minute that someone is going to sit there waiting another 30 minutes out in the hot sun
to re - apply it. They are simply going to get down off the roof, and turn up the pressure washing machine, until the high
pressure removes the spots they missed ! So now the "non pressure chemical roof cleaning" has turned into regular old
pressure washing. IF they were really using "low pressure" why don't they just simply wait for a good rain to rinse it off, or
use a garden hose ? Because it wont rinse off with a good rain or a garden hose, and it wont rinse off with low enough
pressure to not remove the granules from your roof.
The Asphalt Shingle Manufacturer's know this, and that's one of many reasons you will NEVER see a letter of approval from
them for this dangerous type of "non pressure chemical roof cleaning". Don't be fooled by the claims of it's "EPA
registered, environmentally safe, made to clean roofs, safe for plants, environmentally friendly, no more pressure
than a Garden Hose, etc". Protect yourself ! Check them out, call 411, do they even have a company name with a
telephone listing, are they Chamber of Commerce members? Call your favorite roofer, or any other local Selma
,Tuscaloosa, Auburn, Birmingham or Prattville area roofing contractor, have they ever heard of them, or know of any
asphalt or fiberglass shingle roof they have cleaned ? Can they produce references from Shingle Manufacturers, or roofing
contractors, proving they are competent to clean your roof? Are they roof cleaning experts, or simply inexperienced wanna
bees or part timers, who do a roof every now and then ? Always ask for an MSDS sheet showing what chemical the cleaner
contains that they propose to use on your roof.
The majority of these cleaners contain Sodium Hydroxide, and or Potassium Hydroxide. We have provided a link below so
you can see for yourself just how environmentally friendly, and non toxic Sodium Hydroxide really is. Sodium Hydroxide is
used to strip paint, is an active ingredient in Drain openers, is extremely corrosive, and causes severe burns. Go ahead,
click the link, see for yourself. Still want that stuff on your roof? Neither do the makers of your roof shingles, and neither
does your roofer. Don't be a victim of roof damage! Before you consider any company to clean your roof, demand to see
proof that what they are doing is safe for your home. We bet some wont be able to produce any. Because their roof cleaning
methods and chemicals are not approved. But ours are, and we guarantee them to be safe for your roof, so why gamble ?
There is no need to settle for less.
BEFORE PROKLEEN NON PRESSURE CLEANING
|
Pollution and trees are some of the first things customers think of when they see staining on their roof. They are often
surprised to learn that the problem is almost always a growth, such as lichen, mold and fungi, which feed on the limestone
filler within the asphalt of their shingles and this causes premature breakdown of your shingles.
Most shingles today are made with a thinner layer of asphalt, separated in the center , by a dense layer of fibreglass. Oils
do not pass through the layer of fibreglass. This is good for the bottom layer of asphalt. It protects this layer from degrading,
and helps shingles last longer. However, the top layer of asphalt is very thin, and does not benefit from leaching of oils from
the bottom layer. In a short span of time, this top layer loses its oils though weathering and evaporation, leaving the
remaining organic matter vulnerable to all sorts of growth. The dense layer of fibreglass prevents most deep rooted
growths, so most are single cellular in nature, thus creating the look of a stain.
Gloeocapsa Magma is the primary species of algae causing discoloration of asphalt shingles that has been observed
throughout the United States and is commonly referred to as "fungus or mold." This discoloration manifests itself in a black
streaking appearance and is often associated tree droppings, soot, dirt, or a loss of surface granules, resulting in the
premature replacement of a functional roofing system. Other amification of algae stains are increased roof temperatures,
due to the darkened surface, which lead to increased cooling costs. Prokleen non pressure roof cleaning can help with
these matters.
According to the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturer's Association, (ARMA) asphalt shingles more than 20 years old, are a prime
candidate for replacement. A brief history of the asphalt roofing market may be helpful to understand the magnitude of this
problem. Roughly 12.5 billion square feet of various asphalt shingle products are manufactured annually, that's enough to
cover more than 5 million homes every year. Asphalt shingles are the leading choice for residential roofing in the US
because they provide quality, durability, and versatility at an economical price. Furthermore, four out of every five homes
are roofed with asphalt shingles in the United States.
IS THIS DAMAGING TO MY SHINGLES?
Yes. The type of growth you have determines the amount of damage. The least damaging are the algae and molds. These
growths hold moisture, which very slowly causes premature degrading. The worst growth we encounter is lichen. We find it
growing on roughly 10% of the roofs we clean. Lichen is such a hardy feeder, it creates enough damage to the roof, in as
little as 3 to 4 years, so as to cause granular to fall off.
Customers often forget the visual damage growth causes to their roof. Most roofs are replaced today due to the way they
look. At Prokleen non pressure roof cleaning we are finding many people are replacing their 25 year roofs in as little as 10
years because they look so bad. Often a roof cleaning is all they need. This is where our non pressure safe roof cleaning
system comes in , call Prokleen non pressure roof cleaning and we will show you , free of cost to you how our simple ,
affordable non pressure roof cleaning process works. The benefit is all yours by calling Prokleen non pressure roof cleaning
service you, the customer , are the one who will benefit with a better looking , like new roof , without hazardous mold ,
mildew and or unsightly lichen on it , plus think of the money you will be saving on those costly power bills by getting that
muck off of your roof.
What about fungi resistant shingles?
Shingle manufactures have recently begun marketing shingles as algae and fungi resistant. They achieve this by baking a
micro thin layer of copper sulfate on the outside of roof granular. Every time it rains, the copper releases ions, which tend to
kill growth spores. However, such manufactures warranty the effects for only 10 years; where as the shingles are warranted
for 25-50 years. As the copper sulfate becomes weathered away, the shingles begin to develop growth. Eventually, even
these shingles will need to be cleaned.
Why do most roofs have growth on the North side?
Algae needs three criteria to grow. Heat, moisture, and nutrients. Gloeocapsa Magma thrives in warm humid environments
and normally appears on the North slope where additional shade and moisture support its growth. Gloeocapsa produces its
own energy source, and feeds on inorganic materials like calcium carbonate, an asphalt shingle filler material. Feeding on
inorganic material distinguishes algae from fungus and mildew, which require organic material to survive. Thus, elimination
of algae may reduce fungus and mildew accumulation; so will removing loose debris from your roof deck and gutters.
(Leaves, twigs, and tree bark) These roof stains are seen in nearly eighty percent of the United States in various degrees. In
the Midwest, it is most often confined to the north slope, while some homes along the Seaboard or Gulf States may be
completely covered with algae in as little as four years. Also, this particular algae strain has become hardier and is able to
migrate to less humid environments than it has in the past. In areas where it traditionally has been found, staining is
manifesting earlier and more severely on a
greater number of roofs.
Ultra violet rays of the sun kill most growth spores from algae, mold, and fungi. They also rapidly dry the surface after a
rain, making it impossible for them to feed. How do I keep it mold and mildew from coming back ? We spray your asphalt
shingle or barrel tile roof once a year with a unique mold and mildew preventing treatment, before it needs a roof cleaning
chemical. Our advanced chemical treatment will keep the black mold, mildew, and algae from growing on your roof.
It will also prevent the Homeowners Association from sending out that dreaded roof cleaning letter. If not treated, black
mold, mildew, algae, and fungus will soon appear on your roof, giving your Homeowners Association the right to "inspect"
your property ! A dirty roof sticks out like a sore thumb, and it can actually "infect" your neighbors roof by spreading airborne
spores from the algae growing on it. Just as a neighbors weeds can blow into your yard, your algae infested roof can
actually spread the algae infestation to your neighbors roof Thats why the Homeowners Association sends out roof cleaning
letters! Save Money... Call us while your roof is still clean so we can keep it that way.
So Why choose Prokleen Roof Cleaning?
We didn't get to be the #1 Non Pressure Roof Cleaning Company in Alabama by doing it wrong, we became the #1 non
pressure roof cleaning business by not damaging customers roofs and by ripping people off. Our roofing contractor
approved, non pressure, chemical roof cleaning methods are the safest for your asphalt shingle, metal, or tile roof, and the
longest lasting. Unlike dangerous pressure washing, our roof cleaning systems actually kill, and safely remove the Algae,
Mold, and or Mildew discoloring your asphalt shingle, or tile roof. Then, our exclusive time released Mold and Mildew
inhibitor application keeps your roof clean longer.
Our Roofing Contractor and Homeowner references will be gladly furnished upon request. We learned long ago that no
pressure cleaning of roofs is simply not a one man job. All of our trucks have 2 or 3 man crews for every ones safety. Only
one person chemically cleaning your roof is an invitation for disaster. Without a ground crew, one cant see, or do anything
about the inevitable chemical over spray getting on plants, your paint, or your neighbors property. Some "roof cleaning
wanna bee's" work alone, w/o a ground crew! By the time they get done cleaning your roof, and get back down on the
ground, the damage is already done! It's too late to just rinse the cleaning chemical off your home and plants, or your
neighbors property. Just covering the plants cant account for the unpredictable effects of the wind, and chemical run off
patterns ! Tarp's can introduce other problems, like scorching plants, and causing large amounts of concentrated chemical
run off to be dumped in your yard, when the tarps are removed! There are NO shortcuts if you want the right kind of no
pressure roof cleaning. We do not employ experienced grounds people, and pay them well, just because we like their
"Company" ! No pressure roof cleaning just isn't a one man job, no matter what someone may say ! Why fool around, and
take a chance of ruining your roof or home ? Call Prokleen Roof Cleaning and be sure of having it done the right way. Our
no pressure roof cleaning systems kill and remove the dirt, algae, moss, and mold from your roof w/o using any pressure.
Then our exclusive time released Mold and Mildew inhibitor treatment keeps your roof clean longer. Go to our page on how
and why by clicking this link.
Will cleaning my roof really save me money?
Yes. Cleaning your roof can save you money in more ways then one...
First - The algae and fungus that grows can cause premature roof granule loss, and shorten roof shingle life. So you save
money because you roof lasts longer and you won’t need to replace it.
Second - When the algae turns your roof black, it becomes less reflective, and it retains heat; so your air conditioner works
harder to overcome the increased heat load, costing money in electric bills.
Third - The Increased Curb appeal when cleaning your roof when it comes to selling your home can not only save you
money but can make you money too. Imagine how much money is taken away by the appraisal with an old looking roof, this
will add thousands to the value of your home.
